Few days after the Oyo State government received 1,800 bags of rice from the federal government, it
rejected the rice saying they have gone bad and we're not good for human consumption.
The federal government had ordered the Nigeria Customs Service to donate 1,800 bags of rice each to Oyo, Osun and Ekiti States, and 800 bags to Ondo State as part of the effort to cushion the effects of coronavirus on the four states.

Then the executive adviser on agribusiness to the Oyo governor, Debo Akande, said the government had rejected its own share of rice. Mr Akande, who made this announcement said inspections were done by the state’s food security committee of the COVID-19 task force.
It was then discovered that the rice were infested by weevil and other pests, and took the decision in the interest of the health of residents of the state.

Mr Akande however assured
residents of Oyo that the return of the 1,800 bags will not affect the state’s distribution of aid, noting that the state had gathered enough rice for distribution to its citizens.
I like the courage of our Governor for that unexpected decision. The first governor that return the palliative spoil rice.
ReplyDeleteIs customs saying they are not aware of this ?giving poisons to its people.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a good compliment from the FG. Rice that has been in custody for who knows how long, now you want human to have share of poison later on, running over to hospital that are never the safe place to visit now when sick.
ReplyDeleteBut, the simple act of Governor Makinde in returning the food is the best thing to do.
Good work from the State' food security committee. God bless you. I believe so much in GSM's administration,God will not fail you.
ReplyDeleteThat is to say that they seized the rice unjustly probably from innocent importers.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing great Mr Governor 🙏
ReplyDeleteI commend our governor his excellency seyi makinde for the bold act. Yet I have a problem with him, because up till now I cannot say this is the person I know that any palliative be it money o or food has gotten to. Honestly speaking I'm 1 of his great fans, but our governor we are starving and dying as well
