5000 Guns Recovered From Mosques In Aba Story Is A Hoax – Nigerian Police

Following reports that 5000 Guns were discovered in Mosques in Abia state, the Nigerian Police command in the state has come out to debunk the reports as false and are also making attempts to arrest the Publisher of the story.
The Nigeria Police Force Abia State Command in a statement on Tuesday, May 19, said that its attention was drawn to a viral picture showing cache of arms and posts claimed to have been recovered from mosques in Aba and that Hausa/Fulani's offloaded same into a mosque located at Onions Market, Uratta.

SP Ogbonna Geoffrey, ANIPR, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer who signed the statement, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Janet E. Agbede confirmed that there were no such recovery of fire arms neither were there any time arms were offloaded into a Mosque by Hausa/Fulanis at the Onions market Uratta in the State.

Here's what the statement read;
“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force Abia State Command has been drawn to a viral picture showing cache of arms and posts claimed to have been recovered from mosques in Aba and that Hausa/Fulani's offloaded same into a mosque located at Onions Market, Uratta respectively both in Abia State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Janet E. Agbede wishes to state unequivocally that there were no such recovery of fire arms neither were there any time arms were offloaded into a Mosque by Hausa/Fulani's at the Onions market Uratta in the State.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard the posts for it is not just fallacious but also handwork of propagandists aimed at stirring up a non existing tension in the state.

“The command wish to reassure the public that the mischief makers will soon be arrested and made to face the rigor of the law.”

However, NKB would let you know, that this publication was made way back in May 2016, and went viral when various blogs and media outlets picked it up. It's unclear why the Police are debunking the news and trying to arrest the publisher now.

Maybe the police command is only just seeing the publication, or someone reposted it recently... We are not sure, but see part of the publication below;

“Following the information we circulated on Thursday, 12th May, 2016, that Hausa/Fulanis are off-loading arms into a Mosque located at Onions market, Uratta Express Junction, Aba, Biafrans in Aba actually did the needful and the police stormed the Mosque, and recovered over 5,000 different types of guns including the ones recovered from Aba Central Mosque.

“A number of Hausa/Fulanis were arrested and taken to Central Police Station (CPS), Aba, from where they were transferred to Umuahia yesterday, May 14, 2016.

“Now the question is, if over 5,000 guns were recovered from just two Mosques, who knows the total number of guns they have stored in Aba and the entire Abia, Rivers, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Bayelsa, Delta and Ebonyi states.”
