Diesel Tanker Explodes Along Ilesa-Akure Highway, Many ‘Burn To Death’

All passengers boarding an 18-seater bus have been feared dead in a multiple accident that occured along the Ilesa-Akure Highway in Osun.

It was gathered that the accident occurred at Erin Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, at about 11:am on Monday, October 12.

Reports revealed that the diesel-laden tanker fell and spilt its contents, then it bursted into flames.

The explosion rocked the highway, leading to a gridlock on the road as many motorists got stuck in the traffic.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Peter Omolewa, said many burnt to death.

“Many people were burnt to death and some were injured in the inferno. But I can’t say how many persons involved.”

Confirming the reports, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, told newsmen that she could not give the number of casualties yet.
