It was gathered that the accident occurred at Erin Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, at about 11:am on Monday, October 12.

Reports revealed that the diesel-laden tanker fell and spilt its contents, then it bursted into flames.
The explosion rocked the highway, leading to a gridlock on the road as many motorists got stuck in the traffic.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Peter Omolewa, said many burnt to death.
“Many people were burnt to death and some were injured in the inferno. But I can’t say how many persons involved.”
Confirming the reports, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, told newsmen that she could not give the number of casualties yet.

Federal Road Safety Commission officials were later said to have diverted the traffic through Ipetu Ijesa town to ease the traffic jam.
