A cultist identified as William, was almost beaten to death by an angry mob after he attempted to kidnap a first-year student of the University of Benin, in Edo State, Nicolekaima's blog reports.
The incident which occurred on Saturday afternoon, December 4, at the UNIBEN campus left the victim, Laura, a 100 level medical laboratory science student of the school petrified.

According to reports, Laura was returning from writing her PBB111 examination and on her way to her hostel, when the suspect approached her and ordered her to follow him.
William reportedly claimed he had a gun on him and threatened to kill her on the spot if she raised an alarm. He also stated that if he was eventually caught because of her, he would make her life in the school miserable as he has boys everywhere on campus.
Reports had it that Laura became afraid and followed the strange man from campus to Adolor college road. When they got to Edo boys high school at Adolor College road, Laura saw a group of people and raised an alarm.
Williams reportedly scaled a fence and took to his heels, making his way to another street as some people have him a hot chase.
As the noise became louder, more people joined in the pursuit and soon the self-acclaimed cultist was caught.
The mob pounced on him as he confessed to the crime and begged for mercy.
It was also gathered that Laura’s father, whom the cultist had already called to pay 100,000 naira for ransom, came to the scene with some policemen. William, who had already been beaten to stupor, was arrested and taken away by the security operatives.
